Piracy

Music piracy is in the news again:
At the U.S. Chamber of Commerce conference, Zucker was also rallying the troops around the notion that more enforcement will fix the problem. As Anne Broache at News.com reports, Zucker said that intellectual property theft should be the center of attention at all levels of government, all the way up to the White House. The government should create a central intellectual property task force to coordinate enforcement, and also manage a grant and subsidy program aimed at getting state and local governments involved in the effort.
Center of attention at all levels of government? Is he kidding? With the threat of islamic terror, the fall of the dollar against the Euro, the looming energy crisis, we should be concentrating on music piracy? What?
I really do not see this as one of the major problems in our society. They claim to be loosing millions of dollars, but were this true, they would be forced to close their operations and seek another method of earning their daily bread. By "loosing money", they really mean their profits are a couple million less than projected. The entire music and film industry of today is the biggest con game ever peretrated against the people of the world. Until the advent of recorded music and the growth of popular music, the average musician was little more than a minstrel, happy to get a bite to eat and a pile of straw upon which to spend the night in exchange for a song or two. Now, they are not happy unless they are making several million dollars and influencing culture and policy at all levels.
